Ebb privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Ebb and its website at https://ebb.schnau.dev are published by Urbs UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Stellinger Chaussee 19, 22529 Hamburg, Germany, the controller under the GDPR. Questions go to hauke@urbs.one.
What Ebb reads and stores
To decide which tabs to archive, Ebb reads the address (URL), title, and last-active time of your open tabs. It can't read what's on the pages.
Ebb stores these things:
- The archive. For every tab Ebb closed, its URL, title, and when and how it was archived.
- Returns. For 30 days, which archived tabs you opened again and when. Ebb uses this only to suggest a longer threshold or a site to keep.
- Away periods. The start and end times of stretches when you were away from the computer, such as sleep or a locked screen. Ebb records only these times, never what you typed or clicked.
- Kept tabs. The URLs of tabs you asked Ebb to keep, so it can find them again after a restart.
- Your settings. The archive threshold, whether tabs in groups are protected, and the sites you never want archived.
Where it goes
The archive, returns, away periods, and kept tabs stay in your browser's extension storage on your device. Your settings use the browser's sync storage, so if browser sync is on, your browser copies them to your other devices.
Ebb has no server and makes no network requests. It contains no analytics, tracking, or ads, and nobody else receives your data. Site icons in the archive come from your browser's local icon cache.
Deleting it
Hover an archive entry and press × to remove it. Uninstalling Ebb deletes everything it stored.
This website
The website sets no cookies, has no analytics, and loads nothing from other servers, not even fonts. Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, delivers it for us. Each request reaches Cloudflare with your IP address, the time, the page, and what your browser sends along, such as its name and language. Cloudflare uses this data to deliver the site and protect it against attacks, on our behalf and under its data processing agreement. We rely on our interest in a site that works and stays secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep no access log ourselves.
The home page opens in German when your browser prefers German. If you pick a language at the top, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage. It never reaches us.
Cloudflare may process this data in the United States. For such transfers it relies on its certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision.
If you write to us, we use your address and message to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). We delete them once the conversation is done, unless the law makes us keep them.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we have about you, and have it corrected, deleted or restricted, or get a copy to take elsewhere. You can object to processing that relies on our legitimate interest. Write to hauke@urbs.one. The data Ebb stores in your browser never reaches us, so you see and delete it yourself.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Der Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).
Changes
Changes to this policy are published in PRIVACY.md and its German version PRIVACY.de.md in Ebb's repository, whose history shows every earlier version.
